Reminder: First Friday Ride this week

Come celebrate city cycling in the summertime this Friday at our monthly “First Friday Ride.” You may have noticed that we have been rained out of the last three social rides. We’re hoping to break our run of stormy-weather-bad-luck long enough to have a nice, relaxed ride this time. We’ll meet up at Loch Haven Park at 6:00 PM. Jason has graciously volunteered to perform a little anti-rain dance prior to leading the ride.

Hope to see you there! As usual, you will need a front headlight and rear red blinking light on your bike. We will obey all traffic laws. Helmets are required for any riders under age 16. See “upcoming events” for additional details.

Come kick off your weekend with a bike ride!

Looks like we’re going to do this ride! There’s some chance of rain, but I think we’ll get lucky and avoid any thunderstorm activity. It is going to be HOT, though, so wear something cool, put some ice in your water bottle, and let’s take to the streets! See you at Loch Haven at 6:00 PM.

The high temperature today in Amsterdam was 72 degrees, as they rode their bikes along their superior cycling infrastructure. hah! We’ll ride with temperatures in the mid nineties with a heat index of over 100 degrees, on the streets in Friday afternoon traffic, on bikes without fenders!

Phil, sorry we missed you! The storm clouds were gathering just as we also were gathering at Loch Haven, and there was quite a bit of lightning. After consulting the radar and looking at the skies, it appeared there was a small gap to the east of us, so we decided to try to make it to B3 to have some supper. When we got to B3, it still hadn’t rained on us, so we didn’t stop, but decided to go ahead and finish the ride. We rode the full route, almost like we were in a little bubble while storms moved all around us. Just as we were within a few blocks of Loch Haven, we hit the rain. We were drenched, although it felt pretty refreshing. We decided to ride back to B3 via the Lakmont route for some food. We sat at their tables outside, and enjoyed good food and good converstion. The ride home was pleasant, too, in the rain-cooled air. Eh, Florida summertime weather! Who knows! We’ll have to try again soon. Currently, we’re one for four.

I’m happy you guys were able to ride! I was about to come down there, but I had a headache and my long walk today for my 1/2 marathon training, so decided to take it easy last night.
