May is National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month, so dust off your bike and celebrate by attending one of the following events:

Friday, May 6

  • 7:00 am – Bike Bus to Mayor’s Ride: We will ride as a group from Cady Way at Fashion Square to Infusion Tea in College Park for the start of the Mayor’s Ride.
  • 7:30 am – Mayor’s Bike to Work Day Ride: Meet at Infusion Tea and ride with Mayor Buddy Dyer from College Park to City Hall.
  • 8:00 am – Bicycle Flash Mob:  Help us make history by being part of Orlando’s first Bicycle Flash Mob! If you are part of the Mayor’s Ride, you are part of the Flash Mob, so join the Mayor’s ride if you can go the full distance.
  • 8:30 am – Extended  Bike: after the awards ceremony, an 18-mile loop ride will leave City Hall, travel to the Cady Way Trail, through Winter Park, and back to Infusion Tea.

Saturday, May 14 – Ice Cream Ride
Leisurely bike ride through Downtown Orlando ending with a yummy frozen treat. Be sure your bike has front and rear lights as it will be dark for the ride back.

Friday, May 20 – National Bike to Work Day
If you’ve ever wanted to try biking to work, this is your chance to finally give it a try. I’ll be making a separate post with tips for making the most of your bike commute.

Saturday, May 21 – Cycling Savvy: Train Your Bike Session
Get empowered to drive your bike anywhere you need to go. A full schedule is posted through June, starting with this session to teach your bike to behave, including emergency maneuvers.

Sunday, May 22 – Geocaching with the UCF Bike Bus
Ride to UCF via the UCF Bike Bus Route, where we’ll go geocaching followed by lunch before heading back. You’ll be able to hop on the bus anywhere along the route, or join us at UCF for geocaching if you can’t make the ride.

If you know of other bike events this month, post it in the comments.

Would love to have attended. Unfortunately the REAL working stiffs have to be at work a little earlier than that. I did bike to work today…just like every other day and to the office then to lunch, then then back to the hospital and back home. I’ll probably put in over 20 miles before the day is done.

Nice Rick! I agree, it is hard to make the Mayor’s bike to work ride unless you work downtown or can go into work late. I happened to have the day off because I had a doctor’s appointment later in the morning. Hopefully you can make one of our other social rides coming up.

Thanks Kizzy, I am hoping to bring the whole family to the ice cream ride on the 14th. Good to hear you are back Dr. Hsu!
