MetroPlan Scholarships for CyclingSavvy
ORLANDO, FL – Florida Bicycle Association is proud to announce that MetroPlan Orlando, the metropolitan planning organization for the Orlando urban area, is providing financial support for FBA’s CyclingSavvy adult traffic cycling program. The MetroPlan board unanimously approved a grant of $12,800 to support CyclingSavvy courses in the Orlando area. These funds will offer MetroPlan Orlando committee and board members, other local government staff, and low-income individuals the opportunity to participate in the courses at a reduced rate. The funds will also support tuition for local CyclingSavvy instructor trainings and other program needs.
Recent course participant and MetroPlan Orlando Executive Director Harold Barley spoke of the broad benefits of the course, asserting to local elected officials, “Not only will this course make you a better cyclist, but a better motorist and a better policy-maker, too.”

CyclingSavvy is a revolutionary approach to traffic cycling education. Using interactive animations and video, extensive on-bike skills development, and direct on-road experience, students learn that cycling in traffic is a very safe activity, and can also be a very stress-free and practical way to get around, with or without designated bikeways.
In addition to “just average folks,” students have included the chair of a local Community Traffic Safety Team, local traffic engineers, staff from local hospitals and a county health department, and FBA board members.
CyclingSavvy classes are currently available in Orlando, Jacksonville, and Fort Myers. As the program grows, FBA will be able to offer them statewide. To learn more and register for a course, go to www.CyclingSavvy.org
