Fill that grocery cart!
I love my trailer. Thank you, Diana!
Today I went to the Winter Park Farmer’s Market, Eat More Produce and Publix. Tonight I carried a laptop and projector to a Transition Orlando gathering. The trailer makes carrying stuff so easy.
That is all. Carry on.
I bought an inexpensive kid trailer through Craig’s List a couple summers ago–$50. It needed air in the tires and some reflectivity (and a couple of blinkies–I ride at night a fair bit).
Several months later, my wife found a Burley Lite, circa 1997, at Goodwill for $25. It also needed air in the tires and a couple of blinkies.
We now have two trailers and can haul up to a hundred pounds of stuff in either one. VERY useful.
I’ve never taken a trailer to the grocery store, although more than once I have wandered the aisles at my local Publix, happily adding things to the cart, completely forgetting that I came by bike and not by full size van. It has made for some “OMG! moments” upon exiting the store pushing a laden grocery cart, and noticing a familiar-looking bike. I’ve done some creative packing to get everything into my folding Wald baskets and piled up high on the rear rack, all strapped down with plenty of bungee cords. I’ve even attracted a small crowd of onlookers and doubters. Once, I think we were all holding our breath as I pushed off and pedalled out of the parking lot, fortunately without incident. Maybe I should try bringing a trailer. Or making a grocery list and sticking to it.
It is truly amazing the amount of groceries that I can take on my bicycle’s rear rack and 70L Basil panniers. An entire grocery cart is easily swallowed.
Is that one of the trailers built with a kit?
It looks snazzy!
No, this one is manufactured. The kit trailers are flatbed.
Here is the kit flatbed trailer put to good use!
A “trailer hauling a trailer”
That’s actually a trailer hauling TWO trailers. Hey, Rodney, want to go for a new local record?
I see insulated bags in the trailer. Very important to have those to keep the cold things cold.
Yep, there’s ice cream, half&half and chicken in those!
We purchased the insulated coolers last year at Target. They fit perfectly into the Trek panniers….but can also be tossed into the trailer. (I have a slightly larger cooler than straps onto the Old Mountain rack.)
I keep a supply of ice packs and insulated bags at the office and home. One must always be prepared for a quick trip to the Farmer’s market for fresh eggs or veggies!
I use several insulated bags, but I am “stepping up” a notch next week. How about a whole insulated carrier? Makes sense for where we live. That’s where I’m going. Watch this space for a post.
At my local publix, I saw a recumbant hooked up to a single wheel trailer hitched to a railing over the weekend. Looked like you could fit a decent amount of groceries in there.
I really need to buy or build a trailer already.
I met the owner of that rig Saturday night. That’s his primary transportation. He doesn’t own a car.
