Avalon Mailer Trailhead Groundbreaking

Come join Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart in celebrating the groundbreaking of a NEW PAVED TRAIL in southeast Orange County. The event will be held at the future site of the Avalon Mailer Trailhead – on Mailer Road (Second Entrance to Avalon Park), just South of Innovation Way on Alafaya Trail. This is great news. Hope to see you there!

Are they just adding a trailhead to the short existing segment of the “Avalon Trail”, or is it being extended to the west?

I sent your inquiry, here’s the response:

The trailhead being built along with a segment of the trail is the aftermath of Commissioner Stewart meetings with Congresswoman Browns office to discuss possibilities for the future. After those meetings, Orange County received a $500,000.00 grant awarded from the Federal Government allocated to this project with the hopes that this would be extended in the future through existing land across Alafaya, Moss Park and down to Shingle Creek to complete a trail in the east similar to the West side trail. We are adding adding the trailhead to the existing segment. The Avalon Trail extension is in our draft Trails Master Plan which will be displayed at the event this evening.

If anyone goes and can get photos of this “draft Trails Master Plan”, it doesn’t seem to be online.
