Day 4 Photos
Today was curbs and stairs, lots of riding in traffic and a night ride. Here are some choice photos from today:
The curb mount proved to be surprisingly difficult. There were a number of unceremonious bicycle dismounts during this drill.
Expanding on the dismount, drop and run, this was the dismount carry and run up the stairs.
They rode down stairs fast and slow (it was easier to take photos of them going slow).
They rode up to the first level, then did a u-turn and rode back down. It’s amazing how quickly their skills progressed.
Instant turn was like child’s play after that other stuff.
Photo 1: Yikes! Were the cops able to catch their colleague before the big face plant?
He hit the ground, but not a scratch on his face. The video camera was rolling, too.
Hey Keri, Im trying to find the video of us. Cant find it 🙁 Thank you again for helping with our group.
Video will be up next week. I haven’t had time to edit yet. Bill may show a short segment tomorrow. I gave him a rough cut along with some photos to play when the group is back in the classroom.
Cool…Thank you!
WoW! These are great photos!
Thanks, Eric!
So, this is starting to sound like cyclocross without the mud. I didn’t realize it was a police sport!
“Cyclocross” – I had the same thought 🙂 Do they learn CX style mounts and dismounts?
yep, and they had to use it in the obstacle course.
Keri, did you get to ride down stairs? I know you were kind of jonesing to do so…
Zowie! Nice support team you have there!
Keri,
Once again it was nice to have you with us in class. I didn’t get to ask you about the photos being on flickr. can you email me and let me know when they will be posted? Thanks, Ofc Barrett
It was a pleasure, Officer Barrett! I’ll send you an email when the photos are up. Sometime over the weekend after I have a chance to sort them out.
It would help if some of these guys took up cycling more frequent than just on training days. Diet and nutrition should be part of the course…
Nutrition is part of the course! Dave Pierce gave an excellent presentation on fitness, diet and nutrition.
Just looked like some of the officers seemed out of shape…props to Orlando’s finest.
