Bringing humanity back to the discussion
Angie Ross writes today’s My Word column in the Orlando Sentinel:
Recent articles in the Orlando Sentinel have highlighted the tensions between motorists and cyclists in Clermont, and I’m afraid my cycling team will feel the backlash.
This is a problem because my team consists not of a pack of 60 roadies, but of my husband and daughters, ages 2 and 5. Instead of racing down highways, you’ll find us cruising around Orlando leaving a trail of giggles. more
Angie, thank you so much for saying what needed to be said… as only a Mom could say it! You are a catalyst for change in this community!
Go read Protect the trail of giggles, and leave a nice comment. Let’s see if we can make the Sentinel comments section worth reading for a change 🙂
It was good to read. Signed, “Imaperson2”
What a wonderful article! I like it. We need more stories like this. I left a short comment with a bit of my story.
Here it is.

“Wonderful article! I ride my bike to get to work, church and the grocery store. I follow every law and always exercise my legal right to the road by riding in the center of the right lane. I try to be a civil, polite road user by always riding in a straight line and signaling every turn.
In Florida law, driving a car is a privilege, but riding a bicycle is a right. I strongly urge everyone to get on a bike and exercise their rights in a civil, polite way.”
Very well said! Even after riding avidly for over 30 years, I’ve learned a great deal from your blog. Thanks again for all of your hard work and bridge-building.
From the bottom of my heart to the support of cyclists in the road (I’m not a cyclist yet, but will be getting one despite my visual impairment even though I can see pretty good to navigate through streets as a pedestrian), thanks for such a wonderful story!
In two words, “well said.”
Thanks!
