Quite frankly, the best way to convince people is to get them out riding on the road and get them riding the right way, and then they find out that, hey, this works.
And so, Mighk took Orlando Weekly reporter, Lindy Shepherd for a ride through downtown.

A fabulous video! I hope I’m not alone in wondering what the police officer was going to do, after following the trio for so long. A happy ending, to be sure.
The article/interview was nicely done too. She really asked all the right questions, and it’s no surprise to me that Mighk had great answers, especially since he is, as he puts it, the “alleged” expert. (grin)
It would be great to learn that dozens/hundreds/thousands of riders read the article and learned to become integrated cyclists.

Very well done! Thank you for sharing and all of your hard work Keri. I am an avid lifelong cyclist and former resident of Lake Mary, and former rider with Seminole Cyclists. I especially applaud yours’, Mr. Bicycle’s, Seminole Cyclists, Lake Mary Police, and all of the others in the Central Florida Community for offering resources, training, and certification for cyclists and drivers. We need more bridge-builders such as yourselves. I am glad to say that my current community on the coast is very even-handed and enlightened when it comes to cycling and driving, holding all accountable in a respectful manner. I still work in and commute to and from Orlando and am encouraged by such respectful work. Thank you!
Nice!!!!!! I really liked this article. Glad there was no bog-down talk on bikelanes and helmets — no distractions from the main message of making the metro area safer and more accessble for both pedestrians and cyclists.
This is a good case study in how to work with local reporters. Take them for a ride. Show them what we’re all about. A lot of journalistic mis-characterization occurs because reporters learn set patterns of discourse and stereotypes from more vocal parts of the culture. These become their shorthand for differentiating interested groups. A little immersion in reality can go a long way to breaking those patterns.
