Downtown Holiday Lights Ride
Is it a ride to see the holiday lights, or a ride with holiday lights on your bike?
Yes!
We’ll meet at Lake Eola Park along Eola Drive near the Civil War memorial, and ride for about an hour-and-a-half or so, ogling at decorated houses and our own manicly-flashing selves. Afterward we hang out at the park with a table full of drinks and snacks. Carol & Mighk will provide the (weather-appropriate) drinks and cups; you bring goodies for all to share.
Date: Sunday, December 20
Start Time: we roll out at 6:PM
Length: about an hour-and-a-half of riding
Equipment: front & rear lights are required; other lights encouraged (solar-recharged LED units are now available; perfect for the bike); helmets are a good idea
I would SO do this if I were going to be here. I can’t wait to see the pictures!
Sounds like fun. I’ll be there, and will try to convince my teenage sons to come along, too. 🙂
We took our kids, Jeff and his girlfriend last night to the ride in Casselberry. They asked if they could join us for this one, and are bringing some of their friends. They had such a good time.

Love this idea. I’ll be there. 🙂
You don’t have to be part of a bike club to attend right? This sounds like fun and I would love to just go for a ride and see the lights too
This ride is for everyone! All types of bikes, all ages. It’s casual and social (as are all the rides we do at CommuteOrlando).
I plan on pedaling the light fantastic as well! Any recommendations on where to get the solar-rechargeable LED Christmas lights? Might have to order online.
I found some at Target last year.
Mighk, someone stealing your idea?

Count us in (Karina and Walt)
My first wife and I are considering to make the long drive to Orlando, since the SunRail is not yet in place and won’t be stopping in Daytona anyway, to attend this wonderful event, while traveling on our tandem, festooned with lights. Festooned, wasn’t that one of the barflies in Gunsmoke?
What’s parking like in that part of the world on a sunday night? I have a friend in Altamonte Springs, but that maps out to eleven miles on roads of which we are quite unfamiliar. We’ll be lit up, regardless, but parking near, or even a few miles away would be okay. I’d think that sunday parking near the park is not metered?
Parking may be tight near the park, but there’s free on-street parking throughout much of the neighborhood. And yes, it’s free on Sunday even at the metered spots.
It will depend on the tiny dictators, but we certainly hope we will be there. 🙂
Thanks to the Google map link, we have a pretty good idea of the general area, but is there a better way to find the precise location? Is there a General statute to represent the memorial?
That sounds like a great idea! I’m sure we could set something similar up out in California
