Law Enforcement Video
Some good stuff in here. I particularly like the emphasis on crash reporting and treating bicycles as vehicles. There’s good footage of cyclists riding assertively. I also like the humanizing touch at the end. Informed officers and equitable law enforcement are essential to taking back the streets for the use of all humans, not just the ones in cars.
Unfortunately, there is also some poor bicycling behavior shown as if it’s legitimate — particularly riding in the door zone. Anyone stupid enough to try scooting between a parked car and a double-parked car deserves a Darwin award… but the person opening the door will get a ticket.
I found that video really encouraging. Thanks for posting it.
I didn’t like the way the one cyclist stayed too far to the right at the stop sign, encouraging the motorist to pull up next to him. Then the cyclist didn’t even stop, and the motorist turned in front of him. The motorist would have been ticketed most likely, but the cyclist could have easily prevented that situation from ever even happening.
I agree, Todd. I tend to fade toward the left tire track as I approach a stop. That keeps the silliness behind me. I’ve had motorists try to pass within 20 feet of a stop sign and they can’t even get back into the lane in time.
