TREK Rewards a Good Samaritan
Former Lauderdale commissioner given bike to replace stolen one
SunSentinel January 29, 2009
A bike manufacturer has given a new set of wheels to former City Commissioner Tim Smith, whose bicycle was recently stolen at the scene of a car crash.
Smith had been pedaling along the 1300 block of Sunrise Boulevard on Dec. 29 when he witnessed a fender-bender. He left the bike on the sidewalk and went to see if the drivers were OK. They were, but by the time he returned to his bike, it was gone.
Makers of the TREK brand of bicycles read Smith’s bad luck tale, which was printed in newspapers across the country, and offered him a new bike.
Smith said he would accept if the company would donate a second bike to a good cause.
On Tuesday, Smith and the Boys & Girls Club of Broward each received a new bicycle at Lauderdale Cyclery, a local TREK distributor.
Yay TREK!
