What is the distance normally travelled?
I am not a veteran cyclist (and an old man) and may not be up for a loooong ride. My commute on the bike is only 5 miles each way.

Also, the recent weather here in Orlando is VERY discouraging. I hope by the end of the month we have warmer temperatures!!

Hey Thom, the average length of Critical Mass is around 9 miles. It may be less than this, it really depends on the end point. We usually end the ride at Stardust, but sometimes that changes (for instance, we’ve end at Retro City Cycles in the past). This ride isn’t meant to be arduous in any way; we try to keep the pace slow, and feel free to leave the ride whenever you feel like. We play some games afterward, but the fun part is really in the ride itself… you know, the whole journey vs the destination thing.

Also, I agree with your weather concerns. Especially since the rides are scheduled around sunset, the temperature at the end of the ride will be dramatically lower than the start. I’m pretty sure that everyone is in agreement that warmer Critical Mass weather is preferred.

Thom, I think you’ll really enjoy it. It’s not the least bit strenuous and the group is very welcoming and social.

Here’s to warmer weather. And knowing we’re total wimps compared to our friends who are riding in sub-freezing temps 😉

Hi, Keri! I’m continuing to check out your Commute Orlando site, and I was going to comment on what wimps you were complaining about cold weather in Florida, but I see you’ve already admitted it! 🙂 Check out some recent entries in our Winter Commuting thread!

Our CM is in hibernation for the winter!

I know John, we’re such a bunch of ninnies!

I did read part of your thread that started in November with the number of people who wiped out on black ice. Y’all are hearty folks up there in Maine 😉

    Oscar,

I’m not sure if the route ever changes, but here’s what it’s been on the CMs I’ve done:

Princeton – Edgewater – Lakeview – Orange – Anderson – Rosalind – Robinson – Mills… then it splits and some take Virginia/Corrine to Stardust, others go back to the park (presumably via Princeton).
