Take a ride on the… electric side!
Schwinn electric bikes have arrived at Retro City Cycles! What better way to get around town, commute to work, or just go for a (really fast) cruise around the neighborhood!
I took the e-bike for a spin around Ivanhoe Village, and couldn’t believe how much fun this bike is. You start off by pedaling as you would on a regular bike, and then when you are ready, just hit the turbo switch with your thumb, and you are off! You couldn’t miss the huge grin on my face 🙂 I think I may have found a way to keep up with Dano on our local rides.
Retail price is $1,600. Stop by Retro City Cycles today to take the e-bike for a test ride, you are sure to be impressed. For those interested in particulars, here they are:
- Lightweight alloy trekking frame.
- Comfort-enhancing suspension fork and seatpost.
- Simple three-speed drivetrain with internal gearing
- Equipped for commuting; rack, fenders & bell.
- Long range – Hi-tech patent-pending lithium polymer battery is the lightest and most durable on the market. One charge will last approximately 60 miles(Depending on user weight, climate and terrain).

That E+ looks like an OK rig. One design aspect doesn’t make sense, though: hub-mounted battery. It increases rotating weight, which is more important than static weight. People who already ride might find the steering too sluggish for their taste. I prefer the rack-mounted battery like Schwinn’s.
Some of these e-bike manufacturers also don’t seem to understand bicycle transportation. Notice the Schwinn has a rack, fenders and chainguard. The E+ is just the basic bike.
There are some nice kits out there for converting an existing bike.
Just noticed the price on the E+ — $3,495. That’s way expensive for what you get. The base bike is worth about $500 (if that). You can get retrofit kits with the same range for about $1,200 – $1,400.
