The “I Am Traffic” Bicycle Education Colloquium

Florida Bicycle Association,, and CyclingSavvy are proud to announce a gathering of some of the best minds in the nation in bicycle-related education and training early next year in Orlando.

It’s the I Am Traffic Bicycle Education Colloquium, (What’s a colloquium?  More than a meeting; not quite a conference.) February 23rd and 24th at the Courtyard Marriott Downtown Orlando.

Registration for the event is here.

Day One will be a sharing of innovative and effective bicycle-related education and training programs; not only for cyclists, but for law enforcement, traffic engineers, educators and others.

Day Two will be a discussion on the development of a new national organization to support quality bicycle education programs.

More details are to come, including a new website to support both the colloquium and the assumed new organization, but in the meantime, please share this link with those you think might be interested.

So is it more or less than a symposium? 🙂

I considered “symposium,” but then looked it up and found it means “to drink together.” …. okay, maybe it should be “symposium.” 🙂

I wonder if someone could invite a fellow name Eric Dumbaugh to speak. I would pay money to hear him. He used to be in Texas, but now he is in Boca at FAU.

I think he would have something interesting to say about how the “Forgiving Highway” principles of the ’50’a and ’60’s don’t transition so well to the suburban streets.

Can you get Mikael Colville Anderson of Copenhagen Cycle Chic to speak? I’d pay to see him. He does talks all over the world.

Really… ANYWAYS thanks I know of all his recorded talks but maybe a lot do not. It would be great if he came and gave FL some advice personally. And not on spelling.

The purpose of the colloquium is to share innovative bicycle education curricula and programs. If either Mr. Dumbaugh or Mr. Anderson have such information to share they would certainly be considered.

Isn’t Andersen the one that likes to rant about helmets being bad? It would be interesting to hear what he thinks about cyclists as traffic. Or maybe not…

Mighk, Can you tell me if you’ve reserved or made any arrangements for a group of rooms at the Courtyard Orlando Downtown for colloquium attendees? If so, will they be offering reduced room rates?
Incidentally, I believe this is where I stayed when attending the CSI training in October last year.

I am interested in attending, but have a limited travel budget at the moment. I would be interested in a carpool arrangement. This can mean someone coming from north of me picking me up or me picking up someone closer than I am.

I am roughly at the intersection of Interstates 64, 65, and 71 (Louisville KY).
