  1. Enjoyed the video. Good find!

Well GM got their wish. We went on an unprecedented road building spree including the interstate highway system. Now we’re paying the price. The suburban dream just a quick commute away from the city never did come true. We have too many motor vehicles, and not enough transit, intercity trains, and a road system that is not bicycle and pedestrian friendly. And what we do have is deteriorating from deferred maintenance. Add to this our economic problems that are starving our governments for money to address the problems. And bottom line, we’re in a real pickle.

Think I’ll go for a bike ride.

  2. I am amazed that this post drew so few comments. I’ve been giving it some thought and what amazes me is the CFR has suddenly becoming concerned that the US is “falling behind” the rest of the world when that was the design.

Numerous articles published in Foreign Relations back in the ’70′s and ’80′s discussed how important it was for the rest of the world to catch up to the US’s standard of living. How the US would have to “sacrifice” a little so that others could advance. How could we survive when others in the world survived on $2 a day?

Now, when America’s “middle class” — and anyone making more than $8,00 a year considers themselves in the middle class — has not made any gains in the last 40 years, now the CFR takes note. Have they been sleeping?

My question to them is, “Who do you think was paying the taxes that built all that?” It wasn’t the rich people, they hire experts to avoid paying taxes. It wasn’t the poor, since they don’t pay taxes. Whose left?

I don’t want to turn this into a rant, so I will stop.
