there's plenty of (car) parking downtown, it's just not always free. Which I fully support. If we provided less free parking all over the metro area people would begin to rethink driving their cars everywhere and we'd devote less land to storing cars. Lots of places downtown also validate.

Grew up in Orlando, living in San Francisco now and I gotta hand it to everybody working to get folks out of their cars down there. It can't be an easy task with the weather being what it is and (at least when I lived there) the lack of extensive bike friendly streets.

Reminds me of a few years ago when I had to drive my car downtown (Portland, Maine) for some logistical reason for the first time in a long time, and of course there was a big concert at the nearby Civic Center and I had to park about 6 blocks away from my destination.

Nobody has said anything. I try to use a parking sign rather than scarring a tree. Usually there is a rack on the same block somewhere because the only reason I go there is for government purposes.

There is nothing else left in downtown Orlando for me anymore except government offices. Last store I made a habit of shopping at was Behr's "We can fit any human" Shoe Store.

Do you ever get hassled by people when you lock up downtown? On numerous occasions people from whatever establishment I'm parking in front of tell me I'm not allowed to lock up to the tree/sign in front of their place because the cops come and take your bike. I smile, lock up my and then go about my business.
