The unfortunate target here was not a person on a bicycle, but a person of color, according to the news reports. The driver of the motor vehicle had a relationship which recently ended poorly and his anger was clearly mis-directed. When I first heard the reports, it was a drunk driver who then crashed (rolled?) the vehicle, but later reports added in the anger factor. It is likely that the person struck could have easily been on foot and become a target and it would appear that the bicycle was not a consideration in the "road rage." The driver has been charged, according to report, with a hate crime and various forms of assault. The young woman was clearly emotionally distraught as well as having suffered a broken leg requiring surgery involving a metal rod. I won't be fearful to ride on S. Atlantic in the future, with the criminal driver behind bars with $60,000 bond! There's crazy people out there...
